Matte Black Vinyl Wrap
A white Chevy Traverse is a practical family hauler. A matte black Chevy Traverse is a statement that turns heads at school pickup and the grocery store alike. This full wrap completely transformed the vehicle's personality — 3M 1080 Matte Black on every exterior panel, including the roof, mirror caps, and door handles. The owner wanted a blacked-out look without the permanence or cost of a respray. Vinyl wrap is the perfect solution: fully removable, fully reversible, and the original Summit White paint is protected underneath the entire time. The Traverse's large, relatively flat panels are actually ideal for matte wraps — the finish is uniform and consistent across the entire vehicle. We removed all trim pieces and door handles before wrapping to ensure clean edges with no visible film termination points. The result is a vehicle that looks like it rolled off a custom build shop.
The Process
Trim & Handle Removal
Door handles, mirror caps, and exterior trim pieces were removed before wrapping. This allows the film to terminate cleanly behind the trim rather than at visible edges.
Surface Prep
All panels were washed, clay-barred, and IPA-wiped. The large flat panels of the Traverse are unforgiving — any contamination under matte film is visible.
Panel Wrapping
Each panel was wrapped individually. Matte film requires careful squeegee technique — too much pressure creates sheen variation. We use felt-edge squeegees on all matte installs.
Roof & Complex Sections
The roof required a two-person install — one to position and one to squeegee. The large flat surface needs to be worked quickly before the adhesive activates.
Reassembly & Final Check
All trim pieces reinstalled. Final inspection confirmed uniform matte finish with no sheen variation, no tension lines, and no visible seams at any panel junction.
Why It Matters
A full respray to matte black would cost $5,000-$8,000 and is permanent. A vinyl wrap achieves the same visual result for less, protects the original paint, and is completely reversible. When the owner decides to sell or change the look, the wrap comes off and the original white paint is in perfect condition underneath — which actually increases resale value.
